We went to the Inverness Highland Games last year and although the weather wasn’t particularly kind it was a great event.

This year’s Games will be even more entertaining as it is being condensed into one day and it’s great that it’s returning to the Northern Meeting Park.

We will definitely be attending with the kids.

We frequently eat at the Oakwood. The beef is “Orkney Gold” and the quality is amazing. Gaby is an excellent chef who really understands flavour!!

Our Loch Ness Monster is famed the world over, and pops up in very strange circumstances from time to time.

Now she has surfaced at the centre of an art mystery in Italy.

This centres around a charcoal drawing dating from 1949, which is described as Loch Ness Monster and Black Man without a Face, and which could possibly have been drawn by famous Dutch artist, MC Escher.

This story of the mystery painting starts in 2005 in Volturara, a small village in the Italian province of Avellino, where traffic police officer Raffaele De Feo lives.

When clearing out his family’s attic, he found what he called “the strange picture”.

Initially he did not take any notice of it, but later, in removing the frame, he sees an inscription on the back of the picture, signed by MC Escher, which reads: “With all my heart to a friendly remembrance.”

Now some Italians are urging art experts to authenticate the work as being done by Maurits Cornelis Escher, nicknamed “Mauk”, and contacted the Press and Journal to spread the world that Nessie “lives” in Italy.

Escher (1898-1972) was hailed by many as one of the world’s most famous graphic artists. His art is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world, as can be seen on the many web sites on the internet. And for several years he lived and travelled in Italy.

He is most famous for his so-called impossible structures, such as Ascending and Descending, Relativity, his Transformation Prints, such as Metamorphosis I, Metamorphosis II and Metamorphosis III, Sky & Water I or Reptiles.

I visited Santaland today with two friends and their grandson and thought it was absolutley fabulous, excellant value with the friendliest people. Loved Fifi the elf, Mrs Clause, the moouse and even the groundsman were and delight nobody rushed us and making the gingerbread men was great fun. Santa was lovely and his grotto was magical, I just loved the whole experience. I will highly recomend it to all my friends I just wish my boys were not 16 and 19yrs so I could go back with them. Thank you for a wonderful time!

We’ve had guests staying over the weekend who really enjoyed their lunch at Oakwood Restaurant. They took advantage of the perfect autumn weather yesterday to walk along the towpath alongside the Caledonian Canal. The return walk from Moyness House to Dochgarroch is about 7 miles. The trees along the canalside were aglow in their autumn leaved finery, with the sunshine warming the day and making the canal sparkle.

Their Oakwood lunch featured really wonderful home cooking – simple, first class local ingredients used to create delicious fare. They left the restaurant very well fed and greatly enjoyed their gentle walk back along the towpath, as they walked off their lovely lunch!

The Glen Affric WinterFest 2010 takes place between 29 January and 1 February. WinterFest 2010 offers both high - and low - level guided walks in the area of outstanding natural beauty that is Glen Affric National Nature Reserve. Festival goers can either develop their winter skills on the technical sessions or sample the true remoteness of the area on the high-level walks. The mountain rescue guys even pop up on day two offering some scenario walks, exploring tracker search techniques, casualty care and extraction, avalanche probing and shelter building.
