Eating out round Inverness – Sutor Creek Cafe in Cromarty

If you’re planning to visit Inverness and are looking for a great restaurant, I can highly recommend Sutor Creek Cafe in Cromarty.

This super little restaurant is only a half hour drive from Inverness, and is situated near the sea front in the picturesque and historic little town of Cromarty (right next to Ecoventures Dolphin Tours).

Chef Colin and front-of-house manager Sarah have created a quirky little place selling top notch food in a relaxed environment. The restaurant has a great seaside feel to it, and is reminiscent of the beach-side restaurants more commonly found in California and the Antipodes. Striking original artwork (some of which is for sale) by locally based artist Rosie Newman lines the walls.

The restaurant has a wood fired pizza oven, used to cook the delicious in-house pizzas. The oven is put into service to slow roast meat for Sunday lunch – and you will not find roast meat more tender or tasty anywhere. No wonder the restaurant was named in The Independent newspaper as one of the 50 best places in the UK for Sunday lunch! The daily changing menus also feature fresh salads, plenty of fish dishes (utilising the freshest, locally caught catch of the day), and a tantalising selection of dishes from around the world. The ingredients are fresh, seasonal, and organic. The wine list and the beer are also organic (though only the beer is local – from the Black Isle Brewery – as there aren’t too many vineyards in the north of Scotland!

Check the website for opening hours (more restricted – Friday to Sunday – during the winter months).
