Inverness Film Festival 2009

The Inverness Film Festival returns to Eden Court Theatre from 11-15 November 2009.

Films from around the world will be screened plus a dozen Scottish Premieres. Unlike the Cannes Film Festival it will not be a jury but the audience who decides who merits the award from the 30 films to be screened. One film, the Swedish thriller “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, is already rumoured to be the hot favourite with huge pre-sales. The festival opens with the Australian drama “The Boys Are Back” and other films to be screened include “A Serious Man”, “No Country For Old Men”, “44 Inch Chest” starring Ray Winstone, “The Informant” and Foreign Language Oscar Winner “Departures”.

Scottish Ballet’s Outside In – Eden Court Theatre Inverness

Scottish Ballet’s Outside In will be at Eden Court Theatre on 30th and 31st October 2009.  Ouside In offers a unique opportunity to get that little bit closer to Scotland’s national dance company. Delivered from the theatre stage, Outside In uses excerpts from the pieces, elements of sets, props and lighting and interviews with the artistic team, orchestra members and dancers to explore all aspects of the performance.

Highland Archive and Registration Centre – Inverness Family History Centre

On 26 October the Highland Archive and Registration Centre opens in a new dedicated building in Bught Park Inverness. The £10.5 million centre incorporates an archive conservation unit and a dedicated family history centre. This state of the art centre utilises specialised environmental controls in the archive repositories, to assist in the preservation of paper, parchment and other record formats.

Family history research is of great interest to many visitors to Inverness and the Highlands. The Family History Centre holds extensive collections of material which can be of assistance to anyone carrying out family history research. The Highland Council Genealogy staff are available for help and advice in researching your family tree.
